| How close is our ideal press from the real thing? Despite the complexity in the image at the start of this primer, the comparison stands up pretty well. At left is a close-up from the side of a press that allows a much clearer comparison. In particular, the ram is displayed; as can be seen, the portion that is directly in contact with the hydraulic pressure has been colored green, making it easier to see in the actual image. The container is clearly visible in the actual photograph, opposite the thin cylinder of the ram. The slight shine visible in the center of the container is the far wall of it's hollow core.
