aluminum extrusion machining example

Machining is another post-extrusion process sometimes applied to an aluminum extrusion. Aluminum is noted as being highly machinable; taken in tandem with it's strength vs. weight ratio, this makes aluminum extrusions particularly attractive for a wide range of uses. In such cases, the extrusion is produced and cut to length. The resulting pieces are then machined according to the specifications of the customer. This may be as simple as drilling a hole into and possibly through each piece, or a multitude of methods may be employed to produce a product only remotely resembling the original extrusion.
