In some instances it may be preferable to have a colored extrusion. While there are a range of methods used to achieve this result, we will touch on anodizing. Anodizing is a chemical bonding process where the extrusion is bathed in an acid-based electrolyte solution. An electric current is passed through the solution, causing an analuminum oxide film to form on the surface of the aluminum. The coating is durable and serves to protect the extrusion as well. All aluminum alloys may be anodized, with the intended color and density varying for each alloy.
