We have all heard the expression, “Necessity is the Mother of Invention”. That statement is embodied in the person of Thomas BarnHill, the inventor of QuikSizer, a precision gauge that measures the outside diameter of any pipe or round object.
A retired U.S. Marine veteran, Thomas is no stranger to finding a way to get the job done. Desiring to find a quick and easy method to measure pipe and hardware diameters, especially in hard-to-reach places, he combined his mechanical skills and resourcefulness and set-off find his “better way”. He wanted a gauge that was pinpoint accurate, durable and easy to use. After a few iterations, the versatile “QuikSizer” was born.
Thomas recognized unlimited applications for measuring large round (or even semi-round objects) like pipes, tubing, bolts, etc… Not only would his invention save time by providing immediate feedback on dimensions in both standard and metric units, it also gave access to hard-to-reach fittings for tradesmen like plumbers and contractors, making their jobs easier and safer.
For a while, BarnHill’s gauge was a “best kept secret” until it was featured on “Making it… with Lowe’s”, a reality show created by the home improvement giant. After narrowing the event down to 6 finalists, Thomas and his QuikSizer were declared the top product of 2021! Watch the final episode here:
Thomas BarnHill was also committed to manufacturing the QuikSizer in the United States to support the economy and employment opportunities especially for veterans. In fact, the entire product including the packaging is made and assembled here in the U.S.
Minalex, a NJ-based aluminum extrusion company, was contacted to supply extruded components for the QuikSizer. Given our expertise with manufacturing precision extruded parts for military applications, we were the perfect partner for Thomas’ company and are actively manufacturing, finishing and shipping parts for this widely popular product.
Like Thomas BarnHill, we share the same commitment to finding the best, cost-effective solution for any challenge. We have spent over 50 years manufacturing precision aluminum extrusions and parts for every application and look forward to helping you with your project.
