Eliminating Rust by Changing Power Washer Jet Holders from Steel to Aluminum

AaLadin Industries is a pioneer in the manufacturing of high-quality industrial pressure washers. In fact, other manufacturers that came later adopted many features that were first introduced by AaLadin, a family-owned business that now spans three generations and more than 40 years.

By the way, if the name AaLadin seems familiar, that’s intentional. The owners felt their cleaning equipment delivered a touch of magic by making dirt and grime disappear with the wave of a wand. The double “a” at the beginning of the name is also intentional because the owners wanted to stay first in the phone book when the company was founded back in 1981!

The Challenge: Rusty Jet Holders

Jet holders can be hooked onto the nozzles of AaLadin power washers. An AaLadin distributor in Arizona was struggling with jet holders that would rust out after about four months.

The distributor was originally using jet holders made of steel. While stainless steel uses chromium to form a shield against rusting, regular steel is a mixture of iron and carbon. This type of steel will rust, especially with ongoing exposure to high amounts of water.

Seeking a longer-lasting alternative to steel jet holders, the AaLadin distributor turned to Minalex for a solution.

The Solution: Rust-Proof Aluminum

When aluminum is exposed to any oxidizing agent, such as air or water, it develops a thin, hard oxidation layer, which makes aluminum resistant to corrosion and rust. Aluminum is also about two-and-a-half times lighter than steel, making it the ideal material for jet holders used with industrial power washers.

Minalex extruded the aluminum base, creating a jet holder that would no longer be susceptible to structural and performance degradation caused by rust.
